James Anderson

James made his first-class cricket debut at Old Trafford against Surrey in 2002, finishing the season with 50 first-class wickets and winning a place on the England Academy in Australia. James made his Test debut against Zimbabwe at Lord’s in 2003, taking 11 wickets in a two-nil series win. He then took a hat trick against Pakistan at The Oval in that same summer’s ODI series, and later helped England to a four-nil Test series whitewash against West Indies in 2004.

In the summer of 2007 James was awarded his first ECB Central Contract on the back of strong showings against India in both Tests and ODIs. It was when England hosted New Zealand in the summer of 2008 that James claimed his Test-best figures of 7-43 at Trent Bridge. He also registered his highest score with the bat in that series, making 28, only to further that mark against South Africa later in the summer, scoring 34.

When West Indies came to England for two Tests in 2009, England managed to turn the tables from an early defeat that year and win the series convincingly, with James managing to pick up 9-125 in the second Test.

The Ashes of 2010/11 were something of a high watermark for James and the England team. In taking 24 wickets in their three-one series win, James became England’s second-highest wicket-taker on an Ashes tour down under, behind the legendary Frank Tyson. James currently finds himself the second-highest ranked bowler in Test cricket, and seventh highest England wicket-taker of all time. He’s currently England’s second-highest wicket-taker in ODIs, behind Darren Gough.
